“SNOWFLAKE CAMPAIGN”, your patriotic duty to your country

For decades, the Filipino people have been hoping, praying and waiting for presidents who will reduce if not eradicate corruption in government.  Each one promised that they would.  Each one started with good intentions for a year or two but as the saying goes, “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”.

Each one, however, either succumbs to the lure of gold or pressure from rich, powerful and influential people.   Our political and governmental systems breed corrupt leaders.  Sadly and unfortunately, due to the people’s will to survive and/or prosper, it also bred corrupt people.

We have got to change and rebuild our country to its former glory _ the second richest country in Asia in the fifties, second only to Japan.

We can only do this by making our leaders accountable to its people through the incorporation of a JURY SYSTEM in our constitution.

The single-judge system failed us miserably because both leaders and people are corrupt.  Only the rich and powerful get justice because justice could be bought or demanded.  Crimes are committed with impunity.

What are the effects of having a JURY SYSTEM?  Among others:

• It gives sovereignty to the people.
• It gives the people the responsibility to execute the laws of the land.
• It instils the habit of judicial mind into every citizen, and those habits prepare people to be free.
• It encourages respect for the courts’ decisions and the idea of human rights to all.
• It teaches people equity in practice, i.e., anybody can sue or be sued.
• It teaches each individual not to selfishly avoid responsibility for his own acts, without which, no political virtue is possible.

Why do most of our leaders do not approve of a JURY SYSTEM?  The answer is obvious _ “People Power”.

How do we make our leaders know what we want?

The “SNOWFLAKE CAMPAIGN”, YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY TO YOUR COUNTRY

One “SNOWFLAKE” on its own will disappear and be forgotten in seconds.  Several will disappear in the same way, but will be remarked upon.  More will remain but will have no effect apart from looking pretty.  Even more might cause pedestrians to slip but will have no effect on cars.  Even more will require salting of the roads.  Even more will have a significant effect on the use of the road just like the recent snow storms in the UK, Europe and America.

• Each of us will send a letter, as shown below, to all the elected leaders.

Dear Elected Leader,

After years of waiting for a leader who could solve the problem of corruption in our desperately poor country, I have come to the conclusion that you might be this leader.

However, I believe that you can fight corruption more effectively if the power of government is shifted from the rich and powerful to the ordinary people.  Therefore, I voted for you in the hope that you will actively support the INCORPORATION OF A JURY SYSTEM IN OUR CONSTITUTION that will give sovereignty to the people.

Please do not let us down!

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!  It is the only one we have got.
